"Frozen toilet water" is a phrase I previously heard to describe Arctic Zero pints.

Chocolate Chunk - So Creamy! |
If you're not familiar, Arctic Zero produced a line of "Fit Frozen desserts" that were lactose free and low calorie. They received some tough criticism especially after the introduction of Halo Top into the healthier frozen dessert category.
While I would enjoy a pint now and then for a refreshing, cold snack, I definitely wouldn't consider it an indulgent dessert. It did leave something to be desired in the way of texture, however, I think it's worth noting that the packaging did not claim to be ice cream. It claimed to be a frozen dessert.
Fast forward a few years and Arctic Zero is making a comeback. The healthy ice cream world is certainly full of competition these days with new brands popping up all the time. Arctic Zero joined the competition by releasing a new line of Light Ice Cream. Not long after, they announced the release of newly formulated Non-Dairy pints utilizing fava bean protein for a creamier consistency. So how do they measure up?
Light Ice Cream Pints
I really enjoy the Light Ice Cream pints. They taste just like that, light ice cream. They are
soft, creamy, delicious, full of chunks and swirls, yet with a slightly lighter consistency than traditional ice cream. In contrast to other "healthy" ice cream options, Arctic Zero light ice cream is soft straight out of the freezer -
no waiting! They also
don't use any sugar alcohols so if sugar alcohols bother your stomach, Arctic Zero may be the answer to your prayers. I love the line up of flavors and was seriously impressed by the cookie chunks in Cookies and Cream. Another difference is that these pints are not loaded with protein, which is not a problem for me since I consume protein in many different forms. I don't need protein in my ice cream. The calories range from
280-360 per pint. Flavors include: Vanilla Bean, Cookies & Cream, Chocolate Chunk, Peanut Butter & Chocolate Cookies, Mint & Chocolate Cookies, Brownie & Cookie dough, Toffee Crunch.

Non-Dairy Pints

Cookie Dough Chunk! |
Well, with water as the first ingredient,
I was skeptical as to how good these pints could really be. Admittedly, the texture is different, I'm not sure how to describe it. They are still soft and creamy and they don't seem to be icy. The flavors seem sweeter than the original Arctic Zero pints and the texture is creamier. Again, the c
hunky pints do not skimp on the chunks. If you are lactose intolerant or dairy free, I would definitely consider these pints. Personally, I prefer the light ice cream since dairy is not a problem for me. These pints, again, do not boast high levels of protein but that's not a problem for me. These pints are also significantly lower in calories that the light ice cream. The
creamy pints are 160-180 calories per pint and the chunky pints are 280-320. Flavors include: Chocolate Peanut Butter, Salted Caramel, Cookie Shake, Purely Chocolate, Cake Batter, Brownie Blast, Cookie Dough Chunk, Hint of Mint, Cherry Chocolate Chunk.
